Area Served

Based in Amherst, the Berkshire-Pioneer RC&D serves the four western counties of Massachusetts and is supported by the US Department of Agriculture. Although our primary focus is on natural resources such as agriculture, forestry, and water, we also address problems and opportunities related to community development. We provide assistance to communities, groups, and organizations with:

  • Energy Conservation & Alternative Energy Development
  • Land Conservation & Management
  • Water Conservation & Management
  • Community Development

Statewide Programs

Massachusetts Farm Energy Program
The Massachusetts Farm Energy Program is a two-year statewide effort, bringing together federal, state, industry, and private support to streamline technical and financial assistance available to Massachusetts farmers for reducing their energy demand, increasing their profits, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Massachusetts Forest Stewardship Program
Since 1992, the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation has partnered with the Berkshire-Pioneer RC&D to deliver the Forest Stewardship Program. The goal of the program is to promote sustainable forest management to the more than 200,000 landowners who hold the fate of over 75% of the woodlands of Massachusetts in their hands.
